Beach Music
Before I delve into more beach memories, I’m going to tackle another topic this week..Beach Music! Now there is some debate as to what constitutes as real beach music just read this article here but I’m just going to touch briefly on a few songs here. You know those songs when you hear them transport you instantly to that summer beachy feeling? Although I’m only going to share my favorites here you can check on my Pinterest page for a full list!
First up is the ultimate summer beach vacation song, “Vacation” by the one and only Go-Go’s! I tell you every time this song comes on I’m ready for a road trip to the beach. In fact every time I go to the beach as soon as I hop into my jeep this is the first song I put on. It instantly puts me in vacation mode and ready for fun and relaxation!
“Vacation
All I ever wanted
Vacation
Had to get away
Vacation
Meant to be spent alone”

Next up is Suddenly Last Summer by The Motels another 80’s band! The first line takes you right back to those beach memories, “It happened one summer…”. I read an article that said that the song was actually inspired by the sound of an ice-cream truck and is even showcased in the original video that you can see here.
Here are part of the lyrics. This is the type of song that makes me think of young summer love, lost love that happened during a brief period in time…
It happened one summer
It happened one time
It happened forever
For a short time
A place for a moment
An end to a dream
Forever I loved you
Forever it seemed
One summer never ends
One summer never began
It keeps me standing still
It takes all my will
And then suddenly
Last summer
Sometimes I never leave
But sometimes I would
Sometimes I stay too long
Sometimes I would
Sometimes it frightens me
Sometimes it would
Sometimes I'm all alone
And wish that I could
One summer never ends
One summer never begins
It keeps me standing still
It takes all my will
And then suddenly
Last summer
And then suddenly
Last summer
Next up we’ve got another 80’s icon (are you seeing a theme here?!?) Richard Marx and his classic, Endless Summer Nights!
This one I’ve got to post all the lyrics for, it’s about the beach, it’s about love, it’s about the summer. It is the all encompassing beach song.
"Endless Summer Nights"
Summer came and left without a warning
All at once I looked and you were gone
And now you're looking back at me
Searching for a way that we can be like we were before
Now I'm back to what I knew before you
Somehow the city doesn't look the same
I'd give my life for one more night
Of having you here to hold me tight; oh, please
Take me there again
Oh, oh
[Chorus:]
And I remember how you loved me
Time was all we had until the day we said goodbye
I remember every moment of those endless summer nights
I still recall the walks along the beaches
And the way your hair would glisten in the sun
Rising in the afternoon
Making love to you under the moon, oh
Do you remember all the nights we spent in silence
Every single breath you took was mine
We can have it all again
Say that you'll be with me when the sun brings your heart to mine
Oh, oh
[Chorus]
There's only so much I can say
So please don't run away from what we have together
It's only you and me tonight
So let's stay lost in flight
Oh, won't you please surrender
"The Boys Of Summer"
Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm driving by your house
Though I know you're not home
But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy?
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don't understand what happened to our love
But babe, I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of
I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
I see you walking real slow and you're smilin' at everyone
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back"
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but-
I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got that top pulled down and that radio on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
Well I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s beach topic! As always I’ve enjoyed going down memory lane and sharing some of my history with you! Until next time, stay beachy!
