Beach Movies
WOW! It’s been over a year since I did a blog post. I ended up investing a lot of time in my Vintage shop Ruth and Naomi Goods and my art shop, Adrienne Berry Designs went to the back burner. I was still making art but found that running two businesses was becoming more than I could handle. I think I have finally found my groove and decided to get back to blogging.
So without further ado we’re going to jump right back in to talking about my favorite topic. Yep you guessed it… the beach! We left off where I shared one of the worst experiences I ever had at the beach but we’re not going to dwell there. We’re going to shift a little to talk about other things that remind me of the beach and that is the topic of Summer Movies!
I know there are quite a few out there in fact I have a huge list of them over on my Pinterest Site that I’m SLOWLY purchasing to create the ultimate beach DVD collection! I love any movie that takes place at the beach, references the beach or if there’s just a little glimpse of the sea in it.
First we’ll start with one of my all time favorites, The Summer of '42. It’s a coming of age story about three boys Hermie, Oscy and Benjie who’s families vacation on the same island for the summer. It contains the misadventures of the boys as well a heartbreaking love story. This movie reminds me of my time on Bay Avenue in Lewes when I would have friends at the beach and the adventures we would get ourselves in. It’s a sad coming of age story with a theme song that will get you in the heart strings every time.
Stealing Home was another movie I found in my early years. Another coming of age story told in flashback of an older man who is given the news that his childhood babysitter has committed suicide and he is left in care of her ashes because he’s the only one who knows what to do with them. He says that he doesn’t but he goes back home and goes back to the past and eventually discovers what he should do with them. This isn’t necessarily a beach movie but there is a scene that takes place at the beach with a house called, Seasmoke. I love that name!
The next one is Nights in Rodanthe who doesn’t love this one??? Although this movie came out in 2008, I didn’t see it until years later. Many years in fact after I started going to the Outer Banks. Man this one is a real tear jerker and the book is just as good. This one is completely set on the beach of Outer Banks of North Carolina which makes it even better. You can see the actual beach house in the movie in Rodanthe, NC. The house was actually moved in 2010 because it too close to the water.
Again for me these movies make me think of the magic and love (and sometimes heartbreak) that can happen at the beach. There’s just something about those walks on the beach…
